When sourcing yoga mats from China, select factories by the production processes they control and the mat construction you need. TPE mats, PU-natural rubber mats, cork composites, and full-surface printed mats require different material checks and manufacturing capabilities. Compare the actual production site, material specifications, minimum order quantity (MOQ) per color or design, sample quality, private-label options, and written shipment-ready dates before placing an order.

How to Compare Yoga Mat Manufacturers in China

Not every factory controls every production step. Some form the mat base, some laminate different materials, and others focus on printing or packaging. A company may perform several of these functions, but buyers should confirm which work is done at the quoted production site.

Factory CapabilityProduction Evidence to VerifyCommercial Terms to Confirm
TPE mat production
Standard retail and private-label mats
Material formulation, forming or foaming process, thickness consistency, surface texture, and batch inspection recordsMOQ per color and thickness; logo options; sample approval date; production lead time
Composite mat lamination
PU-rubber, cork, and suede-rubber
Backing material, layer bonding method, adhesion results, edge condition, and rolling recoveryMOQ by material and design; lamination and sample schedule; packaging requirements
Custom printing and finishing
Logos and full-surface artwork
Actual print process, sample print quality, color consistency, adhesion, and source of blank matsMOQ per artwork; setup charges; proof approval; lead time after approval

These are sourcing categories, not named supplier recommendations or verified factory ratings. Request a process list, a sample for the exact specification, and a written quotation. Do not assume a printing facility also produces the mat base or that one published MOQ applies across all materials.

Confirm Who Makes the Mat Base

Ask whether the supplier manufactures the TPE or rubber base itself or purchases blank mats for finishing. If a separate facility produces the base, identify that site and confirm how the material batch is traced into finished products. A catalog showing multiple materials does not establish in-house production capability.

Verify Lamination and Printing

For PU, cork, and suede constructions, request bonding specifications and results from comparable production batches. For printed products, approve the actual artwork on the intended surface and check color, alignment, and adhesion. Obtain separate lead times for blank-mat production, lamination, printing, final inspection, and packing.

Which Manufacturing Capabilities Fit Your Yoga Mat Design?

ProductExample SpecificationCritical Checks Before Ordering
General retail yoga matTPE, 183 × 61 cm, 6 mmTPE material specification, weight, texture, color MOQ, and recovery after compression
Premium yoga matPU surface, natural rubber base, 4 mmPU surface composition, natural rubber backing, bonding strength, and comparable grip-test results
Cork yoga matCork surface with rubber backing, 4–5 mmCork layer thickness, backing construction, edge adhesion, and curling after storage
Custom printed yoga matSuede-rubber with full-surface artworkPrinting method, full-size artwork proof, print adhesion, color consistency, and MOQ per design

These are example specifications for requesting quotations, not confirmed stock configurations. Match each design to a factory that can demonstrate the relevant production and inspection processes, then compare samples made to the same agreed requirements. A low MOQ alone does not establish equivalent product quality, customization capability, or final cost.

Cork, rubber-backed, and printed yoga mat material samples

Buyers sourcing yoga mats alongside other training products can also explore fitness supplies sourcing for related exercise mats, resistance bands, and training accessories.

For PU-rubber mats, request rubber composition, PU surface specification, finished weight, bonding method, and comparable grip-test results. For TPE mats, compare thickness, weight, compression recovery, surface texture, and the same agreed grip-test conditions. A material label by itself is not a performance specification.

Two hypothetical TPE mats measuring 183 × 61 × 6 mm and weighing 0.90 kg and 1.10 kg have estimated bulk densities of 134 and 164 kg/m³. The heavier mat is approximately 22% denser, but that does not establish better traction or durability. Those properties require separate testing under comparable conditions.

What MOQ and Customization Terms Should You Confirm?

Ask for the MOQ per material, color, artwork version, and packaging type, not just a factory-wide minimum. If a custom color requires 500 pieces, five colors require 2,500 mats unless the supplier agrees to a mixed-color arrangement in writing.

Ask for separate prices for existing stock colors and newly produced colors. Also identify charges for logo printing, full-surface artwork, embossed patterns, printing setup, molds, and branded retail packaging.

JS Sourcing’s product sourcing process covers obtaining three to five quotations from screened suppliers and organizing specifications, prices, supplier profiles, and purchasing conditions into comparable records.

Compare like-for-like quotations. For example, a PU-rubber mat price that excludes logo printing, individual sleeves, or inspection cannot be ranked directly against an all-inclusive quotation. Identify exclusions and one-time setup charges in a separate column before evaluating unit price.

How Can You Verify a Yoga Mat Factory?

Request the Chinese business license, registered company name, production address, and payment beneficiary. Match the entity named on the quotation to the entity responsible for manufacturing. Factory photographs are useful supporting evidence but do not establish ownership of the equipment or that all production steps take place at the shown site.

For PU-rubber products, determine which facility makes the rubber base and which handles lamination. Request material-batch identification and recent inspection records showing thickness variation, rejected quantities, and any bonding defects.

An on-site supplier audit can examine business documents, production equipment, material storage, quality procedures, and subcontracted operations. A review of three recent comparable production batches is a practical buyer-defined starting point where records are available.

Factories claiming substantial output should also provide a production schedule. An advertised annual capacity does not establish that a production line is available for a particular order.

How Should You Inspect Yoga Mat Samples?

Approve a production-representative sample, not just a sales display sample. Identify the approved mat by model, material layers, color, printing revision, dimensions, and packaging, and retain a reference sample for bulk inspection.

For a proposed 4 mm PU-rubber mat, a buyer might negotiate a thickness tolerance of ±0.3 mm. Under that agreed requirement, measurements below 3.7 mm or above 4.3 mm would be outside tolerance. This is an illustrative purchasing specification, not a universal industry standard.

Inspection ItemVerification
DimensionsMeasure length, width, and thickness at five agreed positions
WeightRecord unpackaged weight and compare with the approved sample
GripCheck dry and damp performance using the same floor, load, and test method
LaminationInspect bubbles, edge peeling, and agreed bonding-test results
PrintingCheck artwork position, dimensions, color, and adhesion
CurlingMeasure edge lift after the agreed rolling and recovery test

An internal screening procedure could use 20 roll-and-unroll cycles followed by a flatness check after 24 hours. These are illustrative buyer-defined conditions, not a certified durability standard. The acceptance criteria should be established before testing.

For laminated mats, during-production inspection can check bonding quality before the entire order has been printed and packed. Final inspection should cover finished dimensions, surface defects, labeling, quantities, and export packaging.

ISO 2859-1:2026 provides acceptance sampling procedures indexed by Acceptance Quality Limit (AQL). Lot size, inspection level, defect classification, and acceptance criteria must be agreed before sampling. Safety testing and material verification may require separate procedures. [1]

How Much Does a Wholesale Yoga Mat Order Cost?

Consider a hypothetical order of 1,000 mats at $6.20 each. The following costs are calculation assumptions, not current factory quotations or freight rates.

Cost ItemIllustrative Amount
Manufacturing$6,200
International freight$1,500
Insurance$100
Testing and inspection$350
Clearance services and inland delivery$750
Total before duties and taxes$8,900
Cost per mat before duties and taxes$8.90

The example assumes none of the additional services is already included in the factory price. Import duties and taxes depend on product classification, origin, destination, and the tariff measures applicable at importation.

For this order, a $0.30 difference in factory unit price equals $300. The same $300 can be lost if packaging, inspection, or other excluded charges make one supplier’s quotation more expensive.

Packing dimensions affect freight charges. At 12 mats per carton, 1,000 mats require 84 cartons (83 full cartons and one partly filled carton). If all 84 use cartons measuring 65 × 50 × 38 cm, their nominal volume is approximately 10.37 m³. Request the actual packing list, including any different dimensions for the partial carton, before booking freight.

Coordinating Mats and Accessories from Different Suppliers

A documented JS Sourcing LCL case describes a shipment from three suppliers through Ningbo: an incorrect warehouse reference left cartons unidentified for two days. The case involved textiles, hardware, and garments, not yoga mats. Its relevant lesson for a combined mat, strap, and packaging order is to standardize shipping marks and confirm warehouse receiving references before dispatch.

For buyers planning a broader gym equipment order, this guide to buy gym equipment from China covers supplier selection, quotation comparisons, product inspections, and shipping arrangements.

Ask each supplier to send the purchase-order reference, carton count, shipping-mark photographs, planned delivery date, and warehouse booking details. Reconcile receiving records before the consolidation cutoff so that a missing accessory shipment does not delay the complete retail set.

Incoterms 2020 allocate transport tasks, costs, and risks between buyer and seller. Compare quotations using the same rule and named delivery location. FCA can be used for delivery to a nominated carrier, whereas FOB is intended for sea and inland-waterway transport. [2]

What Should You Check Before Paying a Deposit?

Before paying a deposit, obtain a purchase agreement naming the actual manufacturer or contracted seller, factory site, approved sample ID, material construction, MOQ per color, artwork revision, unit price, packaging, production deadline, inspection criteria, and responsibility for defective goods. Tie the shipment-release decision to documented inspection results rather than an unqualified promise that the order is finished.

For EU-bound orders, assess the applicable chemical restrictions and product safety requirements. Under REACH Article 33, articles containing relevant Candidate List substances above 0.1% by weight trigger specified information obligations, including a 45-day response period for qualifying consumer requests. [3]

The EU General Product Safety Regulation has applied since December 13, 2024. A brand placing products on the EU market under its own name or trademark may assume manufacturer obligations under Article 13. Article 16 requires an EU-established economic operator responsible for specified compliance tasks. [4]

For U.S. imports, foreign-origin products generally require country-of-origin marking under 19 U.S.C. §1304, subject to applicable exceptions. [5]

Product test reports should identify the tested material, model, sample reference, methods, and results. A test report for one TPE formulation does not establish compliance for a different PU-rubber product. Ordinary yoga mats do not automatically require CE marking; the requirement depends on applicable EU legislation. [6]

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Order 100 Custom Yoga Mats from China?

Possibly, especially when ordering an existing design with a simple logo or packaging change. Fully custom colors, materials, surface printing, and new tooling may require higher quantities. Ask for a written quote for 100 units and a separate quote for the next available production quantity; confirm the MOQ for each color and artwork version.

Which Manufacturers Offer Full-Surface Printing?

Look for factories or finishing partners that can demonstrate full-surface printing on the exact mat material you intend to purchase. Printing methods may include screen, digital, or UV processes depending on the construction. Request a production-representative proof and check color, registration, rub resistance, and adhesion before approving bulk printing.

Can a Trading Company Supply Yoga Mats?

Yes. The contract should identify the actual manufacturer, the seller responsible for product conformity, and the party handling replacements or claims. If lamination or printing is subcontracted, obtain the subcontractor’s production details and quality responsibilities.

What If the Finished Mats Fail Inspection?

Record affected quantities, batch references, photographs, and measured defects. Hold the affected goods, agree on rework or replacement, and reinspect before shipment. The purchase contract should establish these remedies before production starts.

Before You Place the Order

Shortlist suppliers by the mat construction they can document, not by a broad catalog or an advertised minimum alone. For the first order, require a signed specification, approved production sample, written MOQ and lead time by color or design, defined inspection criteria, and a comparable cost calculation through delivery. If any of these remain unresolved, request clarification before committing to production.
